To all Scouts, cubs, beavers, boys brigadiers & anyone affiliated we would like to apologise for any offence caused by our unplanned & ignorant comments. We know it’s all above board & you’re doing good things, we’re just reinforcing a lazy stereotype for which we are ashamed.
Competition – Win A Signed Picture Of Cliff Richard!!!
Have you entered the competition from the podcast? Listen to it & you could win a signed picture of Cliff Richard*. We can only have 1 winner so to enter the competition just tweet us or let us know your answer through Facebook.
* The picture will not be signed by Cliff Richard. It will be signed by Scott Lewis from Clue Records who is willing to sign as Cliff, himself or both.
Track 1 The Chapman Family – Cruel Britannia
The Chapman Family encapsulate the malaise felt from force-fed talent shows, non-stop coverage of an unborn child you’ll never meet, talent-lite ‘next-big-things’ & governmental blunders/ignorance, providing an antidote in the greatest form.
We chose to play Cruel Britannia in the first podcast because it is sonically magnificent, has heart & shows perfectly the steps they have taken since releasing their debut album ‘Burn Your Town’. Scott genuinely believes that The Chapman Family are one of the greatest bands in the country & have been for a while.
A unique & special band.
The Chapman Family are not a cult.
They love you all.
At the time of this going up The Chapman Family are heading out on tour in early 2013 at the following places:

What They Say…
“Angsty, cliché-free brilliance!” NME
“Raw, full of anger, yet still manages to sound like an absolute anthem, and it’s exciting… this is a band that puts your faith back in to guitar music…” CLASH
“The band’s strongest collection of songs to date… Cruel Britannia is Stockton-on-Tees’ finest sticking two fingers up to the jubilee, this generation’s ‘God Save The Queen’.” 9/10, Drowned In Sound
“Kingsley Chapman’s brutally frank narration guides the EP… bloody-throated battle cries, swathed in Trail Of Dead-esque guitars” 4/5, THE FLY
“Unrelenting, angry, poetic and loud. Cruel Britannia is an ode to the underdog: when the underdog is a pitbull biting back.” 4/5, ARTROCKER
ALL OF IT! The first album, ‘Burn Your Town’, is relentless; amazing songs throughout & at the moment is available for free download from Soundcloud (www.soundcloud.com/thechapmanfamily). Once you’ve got your teeth into that then go for the most recent Cruel Britannia EP & then head for the bunch of rarities which are available as free downloads.
Track 2 Fold – Blinding Light
Fold incorporate a beautiful, sparse & necessary soundscape which allows spoken word samples to cut through & deliver a message. This track features a sample from 80’s TV series ‘V’ which featured aliens coming down to earth to announce their presence & integrate with us. Other samples used by Fold include Charles Bukowski, Dr Martin Luther King Jr, Kurt Vonnegut, Jimmy Carter, Mike Ruppert, John Lennon, John F Kennedy & more.
This track was kindly sent over by Seth as an exclusive for us to play & is not currently available from Fold but you can pick up loads of other amazing tracks from their Soundcloud. They’ve also assembled a live band which will be playing shows in 2013.
At the time of this going up Fold are booked to support Public Service Broadcasting at The Hop in Wakefield on March 10th. They are also planning shows for 2013. Follow them online to find out when & where & get down to see them live.
What They Say…
“The spoken word samples are cut into bassy rhythm, while synths and keyboards swell, creating an effect this is both haunting and captivating.” Music Junkie
“This is political; it’s intelligent and it’s music with something to say. Fold force you to sit up and listen, and they leave you with more questions than answers.” No-Title Magazine
Law featuring Charles Bukowski shows off the brilliance of both. Also check out their work with the exceptional Mr Gee.
Track 3 C H A M P I O N L O V E R – The Return
C H A M P I O N L O V E R are something of an online enigma with little information available, but who needs it when you can flick on their new EP Golds & just let the wave flood over you. They’re being thrown into the Kraut tag that is popular at the moment & although there are elements of this in their music there is a definite human touch to all of it. Like Madness on heavy sedatives.
At the time of this going up C H A M P I O N L O V E R are playing on December 12th in Manchester at The Attic.
What They Say…
“Their recently released mini album ‘Gold’ features cuts from live and improvised recordings, with ‘A Robotic Version’ being the perfect demonstration of their haunting and relentless industrial sound. Krautrock fans will be itching to get immersed in the drones.” This Is Fake DIY
Other than ‘The Return” the rest of the Golds EP is magnificent. Then work your way back!
Track 4 Esper Scout – Ralphf (Guy Knight Remix)
Esper Scout are making their way with a very much DIY ethic, working with friends at MediaCAKE to produce videos & setting up their own special shows in venues away from the norm in Leeds.
At the time of this going up Esper Scout have their single/video launch planned for December 12th at Full Circle (Kirkstall Road, Leeds).
What They Say…
‘the mixture of progressive song writing and pop hooks is a winner’ Leeds Music Scene
“…minor-chords and gutsy vocals come together perfectly with all the attitude of Jack Off Jill or Melissa Auf der Maur to more than hold their own weight” Art Rocker
Their new release ‘Gaps In The Border Fence’ split with ‘In Foreign’ are brilliant ways to start yourself off.
